I was privileged to be a beta-reader for this short, sweet tale, told entirely in the form of letters between the two characters.Walter, a young American man off in World War II, and his new wife, Jean, write letters to each other about their hardships on various fronts: the war on his end, and difficulties at home on hers, all the while encouraging and strengthening each other with their love--though separated by many miles--and with words from the Bible.
World War II isn't my favorite time period to read about, and I don't always enjoy historical fiction as much as some genres, but despite that I enjoyed this one. I loved the letter format and how it managed to hold so much story just in the letters. The character "voices" in their letters are genuine, the details interesting. It's touching, heartwarming, and a fine tale of sweet love and Christian encouragement.
There's not a lot to it, in a way, and it's not really my "thing", but even that aside, I enjoyed it fine. :) I also LOVED how it ended! It made my heart make a happy jump. ^_^
Highly recommend for fans of WWII fiction, Christian fiction, and a sweet love story, as a short story told in letters.
